Mixing takes every recorded track (vocals, drums, guitars, synths) and turns them into one balanced stereo mix using levels, panning, EQ, compression, and effects. Mastering is the final stage that polishes that stereo mix so it sounds consistent, loud enough, and ready for distribution, for example at -14 LUFS for Spotify. In our experience, around 80% of the problems that make a song sound unprofessional are solved in mixing, not mastering.
A singer-songwriter from Jakarta sent us 18 home-studio tracks for a debut single: vocals recorded in a bedroom with a lot of room noise, a DI acoustic guitar with mic bleed, and a two-week deadline. We cleaned the vocal noise before mixing, re-amped the DI guitar for a warmer tone, mixed vocal-forward to suit the acoustic pop genre, and mastered to -14 LUFS. After one revision round, the final files were delivered on day 12 and the song was released on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
